  FabHAUS has been commissioned to design and plan a Youth Leadership Training Center in Abiotase, Ghana
   
     
 
  Dr. Larry R. Barrow and Dr. Michael A. Burayidi, Ph.D. Department of Urban Planning in the College of Architecture and Planning at Ball State University were invited, and visited Ghana 17 - 27 June, 2016 to meet with the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) for consultation regarding sustainable communities and affordable housing.

  The Global Housing Crisis continues to expand exponentially with approximately 20,000 or more new refugees additional ... per day ... and 150,000 persons migrating into the fringes of Megacities ... per day.
   
 
  59.5 Million - This is the number of refugees globally --- and the number is expanding exponentially. During the past year, conflict and persecution has forced an estimated 20,000 upwards to 42,500 persons … per day … to leave their homes and seek protection elsewhere, either within the borders of their countries or in other countries
   
 
  We are pleased to announce that Jane Male has joined Amanda Newmark on our Strategy Team. Jane is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center and is the International Operations Officer for the United States Air Force JAG Corp based in Newport, Rhode Island. She is currently working 50% of her time in Africa for the next 15 months with the majority of her time in Bamako.FabHAUS Strategy Director Amanda Newmark was recently appointed to Senior Manager of Continuous Improvement with the Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.  Amanda is Founder of Voice of the Customer and a graduate of the ICMA Centre at the Henley Business School.
   
 
  Parinitha Vishweshwar (Pari) and Pankaj Kanti Dash (Dash) have joined the FabHAUS Team; they are Ball State University architecture graduate students interested in providing affordable housing in their home countries. Pari is a graduate of R.V College of Engineering in Bengaluru, India and is a licensed architect in India. Dash is a graduate of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, a licensed architect in Bangladesh and was an architect in the Ministry of Housing and Public Works in Dhaka, Bangladesh for 4 years prior to his arrival at Ball State University.
   
 
  Professor Olon Dotson and Larry Barrow were happy to be the Faculty Advisors for Olusayo Akinrinsola (Sayo) who is from Nigeria. Sayo was a 6th year architecture graduate student at Ball State University. Sayo’s thesis project is located in Lagos, the largest city in Nigeria ... and the African continent ... and is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with an average population increase of 600,000 persons per year. Sayo’s project includes design for a housing community for approximately 20,000 persons near the Nigerian National Theatre in downtown Lagos.
   
 
  Taskin Ege Yener of Turkey joined the FabHAUS collaborative network TEAM. Ege is studying architecture at Ball State Universtiy in the USA. He aspires to assist the poor of Turkey, as well as the Middle East region, with affordable sustainable housing and communities.
   
 
  FabHAUS was invited and presented a 500 Unit Affordable Housing Pilot Project in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja, Nigeria for FEDUP - The Association for Support of the Urban Poor. The presentation of 12 March, 2014 was attended by 180 international attendees to include FEDUP partners from Ghana and Liberia.
   
 
  Larry Barrow, Sule Alli and Colin Egemonye of FabHAUS were graciously hosted by FEDUP - The Association for the Support of the Urban Poor in Abuja, Nigeria 10 - 15 March, 2014 and were introduced to many local dignitarees, officials and community residents.
   
 
  Larry Barrow was invited by the Shantou Government, Guangdong Province, China to participate in the International Jury for the vetting of the “The Detailed Urban Design of Shantou Historical and Cultural Protection Zone for Shantou, China. The proposed Shantou Historic Preservation and Urban Revitalization Plan includes green housing.
   
 
  Dr. Koffi Enakoutsa, Mechanical Engineer, from Togo and Paris, now residing in Los Angeles, CA is collaborating on behalf of the fabHAUS TEAM for mutual Research & Development with his consulting firm, K&C (Karagozian and Case), regarding resilient and sustainable infrastructure for design optimization of green housing, tornado and seismic resistant fabricated modular housing.
   
 
  Dr. Madhavi Indraganti joins the fabHAUS collaborative network TEAM.
   
  Dr. Madhavi Indraganti holds degrees in Architecture and Civil Engineering and is an architect, researcher and a teacher. She is currently working with Prof. Gail Brager as a Fulbright Fellow at the Center for the Built Environment, University of California Berkeley, USA Prior to the Fulbright Fellowship, she received the Japan Society for Promotion of Science Post-doctoral Fellowship to conduct research with Prof. Ryozo Ooka at the University of Tokyo, Japan. Her present work focuses on the analysis of Indian indoor thermal comfort field study data and on the advanced indoor climate monitoring systems- from development to deployment in offices in USA. Dr. Indraganti’s Ph.D. work on Thermal Comfort in residential buildings is first of its kind in India.
   
  As an architect and associate, she worked with prestigious companies like Larsen & Toubro Limited on various large and medium scale housing, institutional, industrial and office projects. Her explorations in vernacular architecture and sustainable rural development fructified in 2008, into a documentary film made to spur the imagination in decision makers and philanthropists, entitled: Gateway to a Better India: Re-Imagining the Indian Village (see video), and The Mirakal Village Bio-Climatic Architecture Project was published in the Building and Environment journal.
   
  Dr. Indraganti has taught extensively in India and Saudi Arabia. She enjoys delving into the marriage of structure and architecture and material and form in design. Her greatest interest is investigations into the inseparable meshes of architecture, environment and sustainable communities.
   
 
  Larry Barrow was invited by the Nigerian Federal Housing Authority / Ministry of Housing - Pubic Private Partnership (PPP) Unit, in Abuja, Nigeria accompanied by Sulieman Alli, Edmunds Nosegby, Alhaji Yusuf and Godi Magnus, to present affordable "green" housing concepts. In attendance was the Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM).
   
 
  Larry Barrow was invited as a Keynote Panel Speaker at the NSF (National Science Foundation) RIMMEA WorkShop at Ball State University. The Research in Materials and Manufacturing for Extreme Affordability (RIMMEA) Workshop, was attended by a diverse group of academics to include architects, mechanical engineers, and industry business experts that are focused on the needs of the Base of the Pyramid population of the world - which consists of over 2.5 billion people. This Market Sector is recognized as the largest emerging Market Sector in the 21st century.
   
  This invitation only workshop was supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), in collaboration with Ball State University, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
   
  Recognized leaders from diverse disciplines explored the potential for collaboration using integrated system approaches to explore scientific, technological and design aspects of materials and manufacturing for extreme affordability for products and services for the Base of the Pyramid in society.

  Larry Barrow visited Kibera, an informal settlement in Nairobi, Kenya regarding community design and sustainable housing.
   
 
   
  Larry Barrow attended the ISOCARP (International Society of City and Regional Planners) Congress in Nairobi, Kenya entitled ...
